The Making of the Indian Constitution and Its Basic Features

On 4th October 2024, the Human Rights Cell, in association with the IQAC, organized an insightful guest lecture titled “The Making of the Indian Constitution and Its Basic Features”, delivered by the esteemed Honorable Mr. Justice H N Nagamohana Das, a prominent legal figure and former judge of the Karnataka High Court. The event took place in the college auditorium and was presided over by Rev. Fr. James Dominic, correspondent, St. Anne’s Institutions. The event was also graced by Mrs. Trupti Bopanna, Principal; Mrs. Hema B D, IQAC Coordinator; and Mrs. Shashikala, Convener of the Human Rights Cell.
The lecture focused on the pivotal role the Indian Constitution has played in shaping the country’s democratic and legal framework. Justice H N Nagamohana Das provided a comprehensive overview of the Constitution’s origins, the process of its drafting, and its significant provisions, including fundamental rights, directive principles, and the structure of governance. He also explored the constitutional vision of justice, equality, and liberty, emphasizing how these values have guided India’s evolution as a modern democratic nation.
The guest lecture was a valuable learning experience for both students and faculty, offering a deeper understanding of India’s legal heritage and the constitutional safeguards that protect the rights and freedoms of its citizens. Justice Das shared his personal insights, drawing on his extensive legal experience, which made the session intellectually enriching and thought-provoking.
