The National Service Scheme, Youth Red Cross and Personal Counselling cell of St. Anne’s Degree College jointly organized “World AIDS Day “on 7th December 2023.
The “World AIDS Day” program at St. Anne’s Degree College, Virajpet, was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Issac Rathnakar, Correspondent, St. Anne’s Institutions. The event was collaborated with various organizations, including DAPCO, KSAPS, NACO, District Administration, Kodagu Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, District AIDS Control Unit, and Virajpet Taluk Health Department.
As part of the program, NSS and YRC Unit organized an awareness march in Virajpet town. The procession was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Issac Rathnakar to engage the community and spread awareness about the importance of understanding and controlling AIDS.
The students’ march in town resonated with powerful slogans as they passionately raising their voices for creating awareness. The formal function was arranged in college auditorium at 11 a.m. after a tea break.
Dr. Yathiraj, Taluk Health Officer, Virajpet emphasized the necessity of public awareness programs regarding AIDS and the importance of a healthy society. District AIDS Control Unit Supervisor Mrs. Sunita Muttanna highlighted the need for efforts to make students aware of AIDS.
Rev. Fr. Madalai Muthu, the Principal of St. Anne’s P U College, took the Health Pledge with the students, emphasizing the importance of health, values, and discipline in modern life. Rev. Fr. Issac Rathnakar emphasized the role of youth and students in creating awareness and commended the consistent efforts of the community awareness programs conducted by the AIDS control unit. Mrs. Trupti Bopanna, Principal, St. Anne’s Degree College presided over the program and emphasising the chosen theme for the year “Let Communities Lead”. She stressed the essential need for health awareness among everyone.
The program witnessed one hundred and fifty students, faculty, and various organizations. The event successfully emphasized the importance of awareness, education, and community involvement in the fight against AIDS. The commitment of the college towards health awareness and community service was evident throughout the program.
